Post-16

Employability

Employability is a course studied at Year 12, providing insight into the world of work, preparing students to succeed in their careers Post 16 and 18 by enhancing their knowledge and experience of working practices and processes. Students receive 4 timetabled lesson of Employability per fortnight.

Exam board: NCFE

Qualification: Either the Award in Employability or the Certificate in Employability. Both are level 2 qualifications (the equivalent of a GCSE qualification).

Assessment: Both the Award and the Certificate are assessed internally by teachers and moderated by the exam board. Both courses are entirely portfolio based. There is no examination.

Award in Employability:

At this level, students need to gain a minimum of 6 credits. 2 of these credits come from the compulsory Understanding Mindset unit. The aim of this unit is to help learners understand why certain mindset qualities are attractive to employers, and to encourage them to think about times when they have displayed these qualities.

The remaining 4 credits are to come from a variety of optional units, including:

Certificate in Employability:

At this level, students need to gain a minimum of 13 credits. 2 of these credits come from the compulsory Understanding Mindset unit. The aim of this unit is to help learners understand why certain mindset qualities are attractive to employers, and to encourage them to think about times when they have displayed these qualities.

The remaining 11 credits are to come from a variety of optional unit chosen from the same list above.
