Collective Worship

Immanuel College follows the Church of England vision for collective worship that it should be inclusive, invitational and inspiring. Our approach takes inspiration from the ‘warm fires and open doors’ metaphor where students are invited to approach the Christian message, inspired to move closer and included however near or far they wish to come.

At Immanuel students contemplate of the meaning of “God (the upward), human identity (the inward) and the material world” (the outward) and their relationship towards each other. Our aims are for students and staff to have opportunity to:

  • Engage in an act of community.
  • Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
  • Be still and reflect.
  • Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
  • Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
  • Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
  • Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
  • Share each other's joys and challenges.
  • Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.

PSALM

The Psalms in the Bible are songs in which, amongst praising God, the writer asks questions of God about how we should live our lives. PSALM (Personal, Social And Life Matters) at Immanuel College is our version of PSHE where students have the opportunity to explore big questions about life, tackling social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) issues.

Throughout the academic year our students will be invited to take part in activities, assemblies, lessons and workshops that are all aimed to reinforce themes of equality, diversity, inclusivity and mutual respect.

We are investing in PSALM Days. The aim of these drop-down days is to provide dedicated time for key elements and to ensure quality and specialist provision is provided for all students through external organisations. These days augment and reinforce the statutory PSHE content.
