Year 11 History students visited the Thackray Museum of Medicine in Leeds last week as a revision activity in preparation for their upcoming exam on ‘Britain: Health and the People.’ The students took part in a 19th-century surgery workshop where they were able to sit in a 19th-century style operating theatre with some lucky (or unlucky?) enough to be able to take part in practice surgical operations.
The group were also allowed the opportunity to visit a recreation of a Leeds street in the year 1842 together with all its horrific smells and public health dangers – vital to the students’ understanding of public health problems and solutions in the past.
We hope this will act as a useful starting point for our history students as they begin their revision journey towards this summer’s exams.
